WATCH: Paul McCartney shows James Corden his hometown in ‘Carpool Karaoke’

MANILA, Philippines – Paul McCartney joined James Corden on the latest Carpool Karaoke, in what might be its biggest episode yet.

The episode featured the same sing- and ride-along that has made the segment so popular, but of course, with a legend like Paul in the passenger seat, it was not your usual episode.

The two ended up driving in Paul’s hometown, Liverpool, instead of in Los Angeles, and made stops at significant places in the Beatles bassist’s life – from the now-famous Penny Lane, to his childhood home, to one of the pubs where The Beatles used to play before they became big stars.

Throughout the episode, Paul surprises locals at every turn, walks James through his old home while sharing early Beatles anecdotes, takes the wheel at some point, and leaves his signature on the Penny Lane street sign. Paul even makes James tear up as he shares the inspiration behind “Let It Be.”

All the while, the two sing some of the Beatles’ biggest hits, such as “When I’m Sixty-Four,” “Blackbird,” and “A Hard Day’s Night,” as well as “Come On to Me,” one of Paul’s two new songs, released just last June 20, from his new album Egypt Station.

The grand finale took place at the aforementioned pub, where James and Paul initially surprise an unsuspecting crowd. After playing a mini-concert, Paul then finishes with “Hey Jude” – because really, any Beatles fan would be hard-pressed to find a better way to end the day than by singing along to the song’s iconic chorus, especially if it’s Paul McCartney you’re singing along with.
