Sara Duterte, HNP bets appear at opposing parties’ rallies in Isabela
The President's daughter says she attended the activities of two political rivals to 'make friends with a lot of people' for her party's senatorial bets

ISABELA, Philippines – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte introduced the senatorial candidates of her Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) party in Isabela province on Tuesday, February 19 – and how. The President’s daughter and her two slates joined the activities of opposing local political parties.

Duterte, before going to her political party’s campaign caravan at the ITC Grounds in Santiago City, graced a program attended by former Isabela representative Georgidi Aggabao and former Santiago City mayor Amelita Navarro.

Aggabao is running for 4th district congressman in Isabela. His wife, Nettie, is the incumbent representative.

Navarro, meanwhile, is seeking for a comeback against incumbent Mayor Joseph Tan.

Carpio was joined by senatorial hopefuls Jiggy Manicad and Francis Tolentino.

The HNP’s campaign caravan in Santiago City was organized by Tan’s camp. In the advisories sent to media, however, it was Tan’s ally in the city council that was indicated as host of the caravan.

Joseph’s relative Sheena is running to break the years’ rule of the Aggabaos in the congressional district.

Carpio’s HNP Senate slate on Tuesday went to Santiago City, the most vote-rich local government unit in Cagayan Valley.

Senatorial bets Dong Mangudadato, Tolentino, and Manicad were present during the rally.

Candidates Ramon Revilla Jr, Bong Go, Jinggoy Estrada, and Sonny Angara sent their representatives to woo the Isabela voters.

In a chance interview at the sidelines of the campaign caravan, Sara Duterte said she attended the activities of two political rivals to “make friends with a lot of people.”

“Ang kailangan kasi namin ngayon ay madaming madaming madaming kaibigan para tumulong sa mga senators, so ayan ‘yung hinahanap namin sa buong bansa ngayon, mga kaibigan ng Hugpong ng Pagbabago,” Carpio said.

(What we really need now are lots and lots and lots of friends to help our senatorial line-up. So that’s what we’re looking for across the country, friends of Hugpong ng Pagbabago.)

Duterte said she considers Navarro as a “long-time friend” since they were colleagues in the League of Cities in the Philippines.

Mayor Tan shrugged off the Davao City mayor’s attendance to his opponents, saying he understands their need of alliance to push for there senatorial candidates. – Rappler.com
