Waze says Makati is most accident-prone city in Philippines

MANILA, Philippines – Community-driven navigation app, Waze, in cooperation with data science firm, Thinking Machines Data Science have revealed the top ten most accident-prone and flood-prone cities in the country.

They created the list based on accident and flood reports per square kilometer in the Philippines collected since the fourth quarter of last year. 

According to their data, Makati is the most accident-prone city in the country. It’s followed by Mandaluyong at 2nd; Pasay at 3rd; Manila at 4th; with Pasig rounding out the top 5. Here’s the complete top 10: 

Manila, meanwhile, is reportedly the most flood-prone city. Behind it are Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasay, and San Juan. Here’s the complete list:

Waze says that the report is meant to promote road safety and awareness during the rainy season where there’s heavier traffic and higher risk of vehicular accidents. 

They’re also encouraging drivers to use their app to report instances of congestion, accidents, flooding, road closures, and other traffic-related incidents. 

This can be done by first tapping the “Reports” button at the bottom right of the screen and selecting the report type from the menu. They can then hit “Send” to share the report to Waze and other users of the app. 

Waze didn’t provide full statistics in the report. 

“The data garnered in collaboration with the Thinking Machines indicates that more can be done to encourage road safety and alleviate congestion, and we hope to continually leverage the cooperation of our 2.85 million active user base in the Philippines to help prevent accidents by providing crowdsourced updates on heavy traffic, floods and road closures in real-time,” Sarah Rodriguez, country manager for Waze Philippines said. – Rappler.com
