You likely have found yourself super excited about something recently – whether that’s training a new puppy or taking care of a new plant or joining a new volunteer group. We’re all familiar with the feeling of fire in our bellies every time we talk about it. Maria Isabel Layson, a 16-year-old student from Iloilo, has just discovered a potential cure for diabetes in the humble aratiles. The abundance of this cherry-like local fruit in their backyard sparked her curiosity. So, she did an extensive research on its anti-diabetic properties and found that the fruit can potentially help prevent type 2 diabetes. She presented this discovery at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Arizona, the world’s largest pre-university science competition.“We will delve into other diseases,” said Layson in an interview. “We can further develop this into more specific compounds to help the community.”

We love a good Pinoy pride story. And this one is right up that alley.

The Davao Fashion Design Council (DFDC) was invited to showcase indigenous clothing at the Victoria and Albert (V&A), the world’s leading art and design museum based in London. The traditional garments from Mindanao will be added to the museum’s Philippine collection. DFDC president Dodjie Batu said that he’s grateful that the council will be able to showcase the Davao region in an international stage. Talk about world-class achievement!

This stall at Anabu Coastal in Cavite is sending good vibes to plant lovers. They are giving away for free small plants such as basil, oregano, kalanchoe, and chili in recycled plastic bottles. All you have to do is to let the guard or janitor on duty know that you’re taking one.“Sana yung nakakuha at nakapagpalago na, mag pay forward [I hope that those who were able to get these plants and grow them pay the kindness forward],” Rappler follower, Girlie Gaña said.

Are you currently working on a project? Look around, be creative and see what’s in abundance. And when you decide to start, be patient. Don’t let anything stop you from seeing it until the end. – Rappler.com
