MANILA, Philippines – Ateneo basketball star Kiefer Ravena and volleyball player Alyssa Valdez both expressed their excitement for their upcoming show Phenoms which will be shown by Digital 5 on the TV5 Original website starting August 24.

The digital reality show will show Kiefer and Alyssa’s routines, such as daily practices, workouts and the places they visit. 

Kiefer said the show is one way of showing their fans the hard work that goes behind the scenes of their lives as student-athletes. 

“It’s something to look forward to especially since this is the digital time. We’re blessed to get the opportunity to interact with our fans and show probably a different side from what they usually see us doing. So it’s a good opportunity to show our different side, our real side,” he said during an interview with entertainment reporters on Tuesday, August 11.

Alyssa meanwhile said: “I think it’s one way to show na we’re all equal, na puwede nilang marating ang nagawa namin ni Kiefer.”  (That they [the audience] can also accomplish what Kiefer and I have achieved.)

“Siguro ‘yon ang behind sa concept ng show, e. Kasi kung ipapakita ang ginagawa namin sa bahay, sa training, one inspiration din ‘yon for aspiring athletes, para makita nila na kaya din nila gawin ‘yon. Kasi malay ba nila, sila ang next generation ng athletes,” she added.

(I guess that’s the concept behind the show. Because if they show what we are doing in the house, during training, one, that’s already an inspiration for aspiring athletes, so that they can also see that they can do it for themselves. Because after all, they might be the next generation of athletes.)

For Kiefer, he is happy to be doing the show with Alyssa since they are very good friends. Asked about the possiblity of them being linked, Kiefer said: 

“Wala, wala, wala [romantic relationship]. Parang kapatid ko po kasi ‘to, e.” (No, no, no [romantic relationship]. She is like a sister to me.]

“I-enjoy muna namin ito, kung anong mayro’n kami ngayon. We’ll focus on our priorities first,” he added. (Let’s enjoy this for the meantime, what we both have. )

As for their respective personal lives, Kiefer said he wants to focus on his basketball career after his break-up with De La Salle volleyball star Mika Reyes last July.

“We just want to move on, actually,” he said. Kiefer has remained mum about the reason behind his break-up with Mika.

He also denied that Alyssa was the reason why they broke up. Alyssa said that she and Mika, despite being rivals on court, are good friends.

For now, both he and Alyssa are focused on bringing pride to their respective schools when the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 77 opens in September.

“Yun naman ang goal naming parehas—on our last year mag-champion kaya pina-prioritize namin kasi last year na,” Kiefer said.

(That’s both of our goals – on our last year, for our teams to be champion that why we’re prioritizing it on our final year.)

As for plans after graduation and if they plan to enter showbiz, Kiefer said that he is open to show formats like Phenoms or like the comedy show No Harm, No Foul, which he recently finished. Alyssa meanwhile said that she is opened to anything that comes, saying that being in the industry is already a bonus for her.

“Ito siguro ang (This is the) reward. So we’re very thankful and we’re trying to grab naman the opportunities na dumadaan sa amin (come to us),” she said.– Rappler.com
