Bea Alonzo on Popoy, Basha’s journey in ‘A Second Chance’
Bea also talks about boyfriend Zanjoe Marudo and Darna rumors

MANILA, Philippines – Fans will soon get to catch up with Popoy and Basha and see how the couple is doing after the events of 2007’s One More Chance. But how did the cast initally feel about doing a follow-up to such a huge hit?

Bea Alonzo said she and the cast of the upcoming One More Chance sequel  A Second Chance thought long and hard about doing the movie. (READ: Confirmed: Bea Alonzo, John Lloyd Cruz to star in new movie)

To tell you honestly, sobrang finafight pa siya ng mga minds namin lahat. Hindi namin alam kung tama or ano but nung lumabas kasi yung libro, naramdaman namin kung gaano nila na miss si Popoy at si Basha, nung ni launch namin yung One Me Chance the novel.” Bea told reporters during the press conference for FujiFilm, where she was launched as the endorser for their cameras on Tuesday, November 10.

(To tell you honestly, all of us [the cast] were fighting it in our minds. We did not know if we were right or what, but when the novel came out, we all felt how they missed Popoy and Basha, when we launched One More Chance the novel.)

“So nagkaroon kami ng inspiration na ‘uy gusto pa pala nila malaman kung ano nangyari.’ So ito yung regalo namin para sa kanilang lahat,” Bea added. (So we were inspired that, ‘Wow, they still want to know what happened to them.’ So this is our gift to everyone.)

Bea said that she is very proud of the film, because not only did she work with the cast from the first film, she is also back on the big screen with John Lloyd Cruz. Asked to describe who Basha is now, Bea said: “Ibang-iba na siya. Marami na siyang sinakripisyo. Marami na siyang natutunan from the past, yung mga pagkakamali niya .

(She’s very different now. She’s made so many sacrifices. She’s also learned so many things from the past, especially from her mistakes.)

“And s’yempre ang buhay hindi naman nawawalan ng problema. S’yempre magkakaroon at magkakaroon ng problema, but this is a story about how love can conquer all – the differences.”

(And of course in life, there will always be problems. You’ll always have problems along the way.)

Bea also said it was harder to play Basha this time around.

Yes  [it’s] a lot harder than the first time. Maybe because s’yempre tumanda na rin ako (I’m older now) and also may mga flashbacks din kami sa pelikula (in the movie). So actually that’s the hardest part, being your 19-year-old self again… Right now nawala na yung (there’s no more) innocence and paging idealistic ko… so ang hirap din niya ibalik (it was hard to bring it back),”she said.

A Second Chance will be shown in cinemas November 25.

On Zanjoe Marudo, Liz Uy,and Darna rumors

As for her relationship with Zanjoe Marudo, Bea said that everything is okay between them. The two made headlines this year, after it was reported that their relationship was on the rocks.

Lahat naman tayo dumadaan sa mga ganun. Hindi naman perpekto…siguro hindi ninyo mahal ang isa’t isa kung hindi kayo na shashake sa mga pinagdadaanan. That’s not a relationship. A relationship is full of misunderstandings and love. So mahal ninyo ang isa’t isa kung may pakialam pa kayo sa isa’t isa,” Bea said.

(All of us go through that. It’s not perfect…I guess you do not love each other if you’re relationship does not go through challenges. That’s not a relationship. A relationship is full misunderstandings and love. So you love one another if you care for each other.)

With regard to her good friend, stylist Liz Uy, all Bea could say is that she’s behind her. Liz filed libel and slander complaints against Fashion Pulis blogger Michael Sy Lim over posts made on his blog about items worn by Maine Mendoza, one of Liz’s clients.

“I don’t want to say more about it… Basta I’m showing my support to Liz,” she said.

As for the news that she is one of those being eyed to play the role of Darna after Angel Locsin dropped out, Bea said: “Wala pa akong offer and parang hindi naman ako. Ako si Basha hindi si Darna. Malaking blessing iyan if ever pero wala pang nag-offer sa akin.”

(There’s no offer and it looks like it won’t be me. I’m Basha, not Darna. It’s a big blessing, but there’s no offer at all.) – Rappler.com
