WATCH: John Lloyd, Bea on ‘One More Chance’ fans, what convinced them to do ‘Second Chance’
Would Bea and John ever do 'One More Chance 3'? Why were they hesitant to take on a sequel? What do they want fans to take away from the film? The 'Second Chance' stars answer

MANILA, Philippines – Eight years after the iconic movie One More Chance captured the hearts of fans everywhere, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo return as young couple Popoy and Basha in the sequel, A Second Chance.

Much time has passed, but fans remain as passionate as ever – and most of the film’s original cast and crew are returning, much to viewers’ delight. (READ: Bea Alonzo on Popoy, Basha’s journey in ‘A Second Chance’)

In an interview with Rappler during the movie’s mall tour Sunday, November 23, Bea and John Lloyd shared what it was like to reunite with the cast for the sequel to the movie that was so impactful and meaningful for them both.

So galing kami ng book launch nung One More Chance and we were asked to a hotel, mag-lolock in kaming lahat kasama lahat ng cast, ng barkada at ng staff. The original staff. So nag-dinner kami and then pinagawa kami ng – imagine, may mga nakapaskil na papel sa wall tapos as in yung mga creative juices namin nag-rurun, kasi tinatanong kami kung nasaan napunta yung character ni Chinno, si Basha. How is she like now,” Bea said.

(So we came from the book launch of One More Chance and we were asked to go to a hotel, we’re locked all of us – the cast, the staff, original staff. So we had dinner and then they made us do something like – imagine that there’s paper on the wall  and we just let our creative juices run, where the characters like Chinno, Basha [for example] are now)

Becoming Popoy again, said John Lloyd, was especially remarkable for him, though all the characters he plays are special to him.

“You’ll have a glimpse of another person’s life in your past…when I encountered Popoy again, it was mind-blowing,” he told Rappler.

It was a good feeling. I really enjoyed it because you were part of the creative process. And our director and writers were so generous to collaborate with us. They were really listening,” Bea said.

John Lloyd also talked about what he’d like fans to take away from the film.

I would want the audience na pagpapasok nila ng sinehan, I would like for them to be reminded na it’s still a film… ‘Yung totoong creator nito, may nabuo silang kuwento and iyon yung ikukuwento nila. Kumbaga, let’s have an open mind about the story kung saan siya pupunta kung paano siya tumakbo,” John Lloyd said.

(I would want the audience that when they enter the cinemas, I would like for them to be reminded it’s still a film… The creators of this story, they have something to say and that’s the story they’re going to tell. In other words, let’s have an open mind about the story, where it will go.)

Prior to making A Second Chance, Bea and John Lloyd admitted they were hesitant about doing the sequel – but the risk, ultimately, was worth it.

Para sa akin, pwede mo naman hindi panoorin yung part two. Pero papanoorin mo pa rin bakit? Wouldn’t you want to know? Alam mo, as much as feeling ko, hindi siya kailangan or boring siya, it’s so important because you have the beginning and you have the ending. So ano yung nag-lilink doon sa dalawa? Diba the in-between?  So you have to find out, you have to know,” John Lloyd said.

(For me, you really don’t have to watch part two. But you’ll watch it anyway why? Wouldn’t you want to know? You know, as much as I feel it’s not needed or it’s boring, it’s important because you have the beginning and you have the ending. So what links them? The in-between.)

In A Second Chance, Popoy and Basha are now married. Their relationship goes through many trials, and in a teaser released last November 14, it seems their fight isn’t one that’s easily resolved, as wounds run deep.  (WATCH: A glimpse of Popoy, Basha’s wedding in new ‘A Second Chance’ teaser)

Directed by Cathy Garcia Molina, A Second Chance also stars Bea Saw, Dimples Romana, James Blanco, and Ahron Villena. The film opens Wednesday, November 25. – Rappler.com
