Rachelle Ann Go on working with ‘adorable’ Esang de Torres in ‘Les Mis’; ‘Divas’ concert
Rachelle talks about performing with young singer Esang de Torres in the Manila run of 'Les Mis,' and 'Divas: Live in Manila,' her upcoming concert with Kyla, Yeng Constantino, KZ Tandingan, and Angeline Quinto

MANILA, Philippines – Esang de Torres’ performance as the young Cosette in the Manila run of Les Miserables has received good reactions from her castmates and theatergoers alike.

Nakaka-proud na may isa pang Pinoy onstage, and she’s very caring and lovely. And first time ko makatrabaho si Esang,” Rachelle said. (WATCH: Les Mis Manila: Esang shares advice from Lea Salonga, audition story)

(It makes me proud that there’s another Filipino onstage, and she’s very caring and lovely. And this is my first time working with Esang.)

Lahat ng cast ng Les Mis na nandito – yung mga Australian at yung mga British – love na love siya because she’s so adorable and ang cute, cute. And [she’s] very professional, and I’m so happy that nakasama siya sa cast.”

(And all of the cast members of Les Mis here – the Australians and the British – really love her because she’s so adorable and cute. And [she’s] very professional, and I’m so happy that she’s part of the cast.)

Congratulations to Esang on her debut as lil Cosette you are so adorable!  #thelesmisdiaryofrachelle @lesmismanila

After the press conference, Rachelle explained how she found out about Esang joining the show. Hindi ko siya nakita kasi nung rehearsal. Nakita ko na lang siya sasalang na siya onstage,” she said.

(I have not seen her during [their] rehearsal. I just saw her when she was already about to go onstage.)

Pag nagre-rehearse kasi sila, hindi kami kasama. Sila lang and the director,” she added. “So nung first time ko, company call na namin, doon lang siya inintroduce sa akin, and onstage, doon ko nakita na, ‘Ay, one week lang yata nag-rehearse and nakasabay na yung bata.’ And I’m very happy and proud kasi Pinoy iyon na ay, kaya ng Pinoy sumabay ‘di ba?”

(When they rehearse we don’t join them. It’s only them and the director. So the first time I met her, it was during our company call. It was only then that she was introduced to me, and onstage, that’s when I saw that ‘Wow, I think they just rehearsed and performed with the kid for only one week.’ And I’m very happy and proud because she’s Filipino and it just shows that a Filipino like her is capable of anything, right?)

With the Manila run of Les Mis set to end on May 1, Rachelle Ann said that she has mixed feelings about it, but she’s glad to have spent time with her family and entertain the Filipino audience.

She will go on a short vacation with her family before returning to London on May 6 to resume playing Fantine on the West End.

The Divas: Live in Manila

Performing onstage is nothing new to Rachelle, but this will be the first time she will be singing with 4 ladies with their own distinct vocal styles.

Rachelle and the rest of the ladies also gave a sneak peek of what expect for their upcoming concert. Watch:

“[This is] something different. Siyempre, i-shashare ko din sa mga tao, yung kumbaga ano yung mga natutunan ko doon and yung boses ko ngayon, nag-iba na rin. So medyo  focus din ako sa musical sa November 11 sa Araneta Coliseum kasama yung mga magagaling na divas,” she said, as she will sing a mixture of pop songs and showtunes.

([This is] something different. Of course, I’ll share with the people what I’ve learned [in London], now that my voice has changed, too. I’ll focus a bit on [songs from musicals] on November 11 at the Araneta Coliseum with these talented divas.)
