The actor's lawyer says he did not violate any rule

MANILA, Philippines – Actor Robin Padilla defended himself after a photo of a shaded ballot came out on social media. The photo has since been deleted.

On Instagram, the action star posted the letter of his lawyer with the caption:

“I am posting this letter from my lawyer to inform the public that I am not tolerating the present Assassination of my character. My Honor is the only thing that I have in my life, Freedom was taken away from me since 1995. Presently, I am still on conditional pardon without any civil rights. 2013 came, this government took away my right to bear arms and left me defenseless against evil and political gangsters and now [the] 2016 elections came, me, without any voting rights, am being judged by some netizens for violating election rules while voting.

“If I did something to this effect I am calling the Comelec to arrest me and put me to jail if proven that I went to a precinct, voted, and took pictures of an official ballot. If proven otherwise, then the legal battle should start and make the guilty answer for their actions especially the bullying.”

In a statement, his lawyer Rudolf Philip B. Jurado said Padilla did not violate any rule “since it was neither an official ballot nor taken inside a voting precinct.”

Padilla’s wife, TV host Mariel Rodriguez, also defended him.

“People should be more careful. They shouldn’t assume! IT WAS A SAMPLE BALLOT!!! we call this the Trillanes Syndrome…No evidence, all talk. If anyone can prove that Robin Padilla went to a precinct, voted, and took photos of his ballot, I will help you convict him. I am that sure that Robin didn’t do that….Why? Because ROBIN PADILLA CANNOT VOTE!!!!”

The TV host also defended herself from criticism, after she posted a photo of her in a Duterte t-shirt. The photo has since been deleted as well.

Padilla, a known supporter of Davao mayor Rodrigo Duterte drew flak from several netizens when the said photo came out. Aiza Seguerra also questioned the actor but has since apologized after the two talked.
