(UPDATED) Zayn Malik, Simon Cowell, and more offer their condolences to Louis and his famiy

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Louis Tomlinson’s mother, Johannah Deakin, has died.

The news was confirmed by People, who reported that Johannah died of leukemia at 43.

A statement from the family to People said that Johannah died in the early hours of Wednesday, December 7. The family explained: “Earlier this year Johannah was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia that required immediate and continuous treatment. We respectfully request that the family are given time and space to grieve in private.”

Johannah had 7 children from 3 marriages: Louis Tomlinson, Lottie Tomlinson, Félicité Tomlinson, twins Daisy and Phoebe Tomlinson, and twins Ernest and Doris Deakin. She had one grandson, Louis’ son, Freddie Reign.

Johanna’s husband Dan Deakin remembered her in a statement to People:

“Johannah was first and foremost a truly amazing mother to 7 children – Louis, Lottie, Félicité, and two sets of twins, Phoebe and Daisy and Ernest and Doris — whose individual talents and success are testament to the principles and beliefs she instilled in them. She was also an incredibly proud grandmother to [Louis’ son] Freddie.”

Dan continued to say that Johanna was selfless, working on many charity campaigns and helping out those whom she saw was in need.

“These are the things that made Johannah happy and content in life, and all of which for me made her simply the perfect wife and best friend to face each day with. I thoroughly loved walking through life with her, and though five years was far too short a time, during that time we had so many lifetimes worth of happiness, adventures, and memories,” he said.

Dan also said that Johanna had been hospitalized at the University College London Hospital since May, and was later moved to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital Sheffield.

Louis and his siblings have yet to speak about their mothers’ death, but their friends have offered condolences on social media.

Among them are Louis’ former One Direction bandmate Zayn Malik, with whom he has had disagreements with in the past.

On Twitter, Liam posted a note to Louis that read: “Louis, I’m so sorry for you my brother, my heart aches for you. Just know I love you the same from a million miles away as I do right next to you. I’m always here for you through everything as you have been for me.

“My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this incredibly sad time. I can’t begin to imagine what you are all going through. Rest in peace, Johanna, you are forever in my thoughts.”

Niall Horan tweeted: “Very sad news. Louis, I love you mate and I’m/all of us are here for you all the way. You’re mum was an incredible person. Thinking of you and your family. Love from my family to yours.”

X Factor creator Simon Cowell and former X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini offered their condolences as well. One Direction was formed on X Factor in 2010.
