WATCH: ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ director Elizabeth Banks on ‘fantastic’ Filharmonic

MANILA, Philippines – We still don’t know too much about Fil-Am group The Filharmonic’s role in Pitch Perfect 2, but a new featurette gives us a glimpse at their look in the upcoming movie, as well as insights from director Elizabeth Banks.

“The very first thing we did when we knew we wanted to represent multiple countries at the world competition was go to a cappella groups that sing in different languages,” said Elizabeth. “The Filharmonic are fantastic, Deke and I knew them from [The] Sing-Off.” (WATCH: Fil-Am group The Filharmonic in new ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ trailer)

“We just took inspirations from real life and actually put as many real groups into the finale as we could,” she said. 

“The Filharmonic, so much fun. They’re actually all of Filipino heritage, so they’re singing in Tagalog, the language of the Philippines,” said vocal producer Deke Sharon.

The boys of The Filharmonic, a Fil-Am all-male a cappella group, are known for a sound described in their website as “urbanesque hip hop sound with 90’s nostalgia.” The group was first created specifically for the fourth season of a cappella singing competition The Sing-Off. We know the boys will be one of the international groups competing against our favorite Barden Bellas, who are looking for a chance to win on the global stage.
