Margie Holmes returns on screen with HOOQ’s ‘Sex Talks’
Rappler columnist, sex therapist, and author Dr Margarita Holmes talks about sex, orgasm, and more on HOOQ starting July 26

MANILA, Philippines — Rappler columnist, author, and clinical psychologist Dr. Margarita Holmes is no stranger to giving advice about sex and love, and everything else in between.

In 2019, she brings her sage advice back on screen as she stars in her new show Sex Talks with Dr Holmes produced by streaming platform HOOQ.

At the press launch of the show on Wednesday, July 24, Holmes said that she’s excited to do the show after being away from television for a while. She’s also looking forward to streaming on HOOQ, since it’s a platform that gives access to the international market.

Composed of 10 episodes, the show is directed by Mosh Ladanga and will tackle various topics – from sex, the numerous letters Holmes and husband columnist Jeremy Baer have received through the years, including some of the letters featured on Rappler’s Two Pronged columns.

Asked if the questions have changed through the years, Holmes said it hasn’t changed much.

“Except I must admit the millennials are wala nang pasikot-sikot, paligoy-ligoy. Most of them are sort of straight to the point. A lot of them are still guilty of same issues… maybe. Or maybe I’m just distracted because pag magtanong sila diretso (when they ask it’s straight to the point),” Holmes said.

Topics discussed in the the first episodes are if penis size matters, long distance relationships, social media, and coming too fast, among others.

The show will also feature humorous graphics and some reenactments.

Holmes said she hopes the show will help viewers gain different perspectives. “In addition to the facts, it’s just a perspective so that hopefully it will help you understand where you are,” she said.

Being on screen is not new to Holmes, having done talk shows in the past.

“Talk shows, I think are very good. Kailangan talks shows, you can only go as far and you can only go as deep as your guests are. I am very thankful in a way that this show you know presents the problem, does it so well… and I hope sometimes it deep parang you can go a little deeper into the issue. Because you will depend on the reenactment and on the animation,” she said.

In an interview with Rappler after the presentation, Holmes said that while she will be the main host of the show, her husband Jeremy’s views will also be incorporated into the show.

“So from the column, sometimes I get his answers if they’re important like the Baer envelope theory. There’s another one that will come later the fear factor, which we already talked about and other things. Jeremy will come out kasi ang ganda naman ng sinasabi niya (because what he said was good.)”
