Get to know Paco Park at this heritage walk

MANILA, Philippines – Many a marriage began in Paco Park, but aside from being a favored wedding venue, it is also filled with history, having been around since the 1800s.

The park, which started out as a cemetery, was also the first resting place of national hero Jose Rizal after his execution, and also became an ammunition depot for the Japanese in the World War II.

Clearly, there are many stories that have unfolded here – and the Metropolitan Museum of Manila will be hosting a Paco Park Heritage Walk on July 13 at 1 pm, with Escuela Taller’s architects Jeffrey Cobilla and Michael Querido guiding participants through the walk and talking about the foundation’s restoration efforts. The tour fee is P500.

The Paco Park event follows the museum’s Cultural Center of the Philippines Heritage Walk held in June, which was meant to celebrate the legacy of National Artists Leandro Locsin and Ildefonso P. Santos. – Rappler.com
