MANILA, Philippines – In the lastest celebrity-beauty brand collaboration, Kathryn Bernardo recently launched the makeup line she created with local beauty favorite Happy Skin.

The diffusion line is called Generation Happy Skin, and follows the skincare-first-makeup-second school of thought at the heart of its parent brand, and popularized by K-beauty and cult makeup brand Glossier.

Generation Happy Skin includes 6 products enough for a full face look: a pressed powder, matte lippies, water tints, a powder blush, mascara, and a liquid brow pen. The price points for this collection are more affordable, too.

The Stay Fresh Weightless Pressed Powder (P499) comes in a range of shades that is meant to cater to Pinay skin tones – from the fair-skinned, and especially to morenas. The 3 shades include Light Beige, Medium Beige (Kath’s shade), and Natural Beige.

Kathryn said, her choice of shades for the pressed powder was informed by her experience as a morena girl faced with the challenge of finding the right shade of base that isn’t too heavy and doesn’t make her look ashy or pale.

“Being a morena girl myself, years ago I had a hard time choosing the right color for me,” she said. “For example, for the powder, I find it grayish, or sometimes maganda nga yung color sakin (the color may look nice on me) but maybe masyadong makapal naman or naiiritate naman yung skin ko (it’s too thick, or my skin gets irritated).”

The My Lips But Better Ultra Matte Lippie (P399) comes in 5 colors that could work for both low-key or more dramatic looks. Shades include Moxie (deep wine red), Wonder (berry red), Authentic (rosy pink), Courage (nude pink), and Spunk (a peachy nude).

The Kiss & Bloom Water Lip & Cheek Tint (P299) is a long-lasting liquid tint that comes in 4 shades: Dainty (orangey red), Fearless (dark red), Prim (brownish red), and Serene (berry red).

For those who prefer their pops of color in powder form, the collection also has the Instant Glow Longwear Powder Blushes (P499) in two shades: Freedom (bronze), and Love (pink).

Because Kathryn is apparently particular about her mascara, the collection also includes an Extra Drama Volumizing Mascara (P499). The formula, which promises to lift and volumize lashes without clumping. The final formula was selected by Kathryn after 3 tries.

The final product in the collection is the Perfect Brows Long-Lasting Liquid Pen (P399). The pen comes in a ‘universal brown’ that creates fine strokes for a natural look.

Generation Happy Skin’s packaging is a departure from its parent line’s brightly-colored, kitschy look. Instead, the new line comes in minimalist pastel-colored packaging, that was inspired by Kathryn’s classic aesthetic.

According to Kathryn, the collection keeps women of all ages in mind, but especially women and teens who may have sensitive skin.

It was also created with Kathryn’s fans in mind.

As Jacque and Rissa said, Kathryn was very involved in the collaboration, carefully selecting everything from the packaging, to the names of the products, to the shades.

“I was very hands-on. You know what the whole process, sobrang na-enjoy ko siya (I really enjoyed it), maybe because Happy Skin allowed me to be collaborative with them,” Kathryn said, explaining that she wanted the fans to look at the collection and know that she was really behind it. 

“Yung mga fans, hindi mo sila mattrick. Pag pinresent mo yung color, alam nila kung ano yung ako. So naging particular ako dun, gusto ko makita nila yung Kathryn talaga in this collection,” she said.

The pressed powder, lip & cheek tint, mascara, and liquid brow pen are now available online and in Happy Skin boutiques, while the ultra matte lippie and powder blush will be available starting August 23. – Rappler.com
