Life’s purpose, horcruxes, and winging it: What motherhood has taught these moms
From Saab Magalona to Richelle Singson-Michael, here's what motherhood has taught these new moms

MANILA, Philippines – It goes without saying that motherhood means a radical change in any person’s life. You stumble, you bask in the glory, you cry, you break down, and, inevitably, you learn a thing or two.

Rappler talks to real-life moms – both the celebrity and non-celebrity kind – to find out what being mommy to a little humans has taught them.

Korina Sanchez-Roxas, mom to twins Pepe and Pilar

“I think the learnings of motherhood is within a whole lifetime. But what I immediately noticed is this refreshing clarity that comes with motherhood. It is a clarity I both enjoy and not savor all too happily. For all other things I might be willing to compromise. With being a mom, I’m leaning towards black or white. It isn’t always easy or pleasant. But has to be.”

“What is refreshing is: it is much clearer what my main purpose in life now is.”

Divine Lee-Go, mother to 1-year-old Baz and expecting her second child

“I think the biggest surprise to me was that it’s not as natural as I thought it woud be. Sometimes you just wing it. But as long as your heart is in the right place, that’s all you need.”

Mikee Andrei, mom to Pauline

“Just two words: sacrifice and fulfillment. These are what I’ve learned most. I have sacrificed so much but no single regret because along the way, it also did a lot good to me and to my partner. I never imagined motherhood was this great and fulfilling.”

Saab Magalona, mother to 1-year-old Pancho and expecting her second child

“Motherhood has taught me that bringing a child into this world is similar to creating what people in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter call a Horcrux (minus the evil act of having to commit murder, of course). You leave a fragment of your soul inside this tiny human and you’re forever connected, sometimes even telepathically communicating. I’ve also learned that I don’t have to give up my childlike wonder just because I’m now a parent — it’s actually an excellent way to bond with my kid!”

Richelle Singson-Michael, mom to two kids

“This generation has a lot of focus on more natural means. Breastfeeding provides more nutrients. For me, example, I would always bring my baby to work. I breastfed my baby for about 1 1/2 years. And even if I was busy going to meetings or like going to the office, I would always like bring my baby and always find time to feed him on the side. And even when I was a judge for Miss Universe, I would bring my baby with me, do the judging duties, talk to the contestants and then during the break, I would go to the corner and breastfeed my baby and go back to work.”
