December 2017 new moon and full moon forecast

Charting the new moon and full moon is a great way for us to set our priorities when it is most favorable to do so and to be able to reap the benefits. (READ: Your horoscope for December 2017 is here)

The Babylonians used moon cycles to know when to plant and harvest. The new moon was the time for beginnings, initiations, and intentions, while the full moon was a time for completion, harvesting, and transitions. It is usually under the bright full moon where secrets and the dark side of humanity are pushed out into the open.

Here’s some lunar light to help you navigate the month ahead!

December 3 and 4: The full moon

Sun is in Sagittarius and Moon is in Gemini. Oh boy, can these two signs talk! This is a verbal time, a time to party for enjoyment, communicating, laughing, and indulging. What a great time to schedule your annual Christmas party and Kris Kringle. Enjoy the Sagittarius energy, make your love cards, and shop for those gifts. Give yourself access to feel the chi during this full moon. 

Uranus in Aries is trining Mercury and Saturn – Mercury is the way you think, while Saturn is the controller. Uranus rules sparks of genius, the radical departure from old ways of living, the person who thinks outside of the box. At this time, feel free to start future pacing – planning and making resolutions for the New Year. Who knows what flashes of insight you’ll be having? Air and fire signs will be supported during this full moon. It is a great time to dream, to be non-judgmental, to be purely true and uninhibited.

These two days may also create irritation, with Mars being in Libra, the planet of war, residing in the sign of peace and balance. Aside from this bump in the road, it’s definitely time to party! 

December 16 to 17: The new moon

There are no air signs in the heavens, but there are 6 planets in Fire. The sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, and Saturn are all in the fire sign Sagittarius, while Uranus is in Aries.

It’s a dark night because the sun and moon are holding hands. The sun blocks out the moon and there’s no reflection. It’s a time to turn in and reflect, even though there are all of these planets in fire. With Mars and Jupiter in Scorpio, now is a good time to journal – to write down all the things you haven’t been able to say. If you’re angry or frustrated, process and lift your mood up as the optimistic Sagittarius would do. Don’t stay with the negative – that’s you, Scorpio – but tell the truth without exaggeration. This is a great time to go inside and do your prayers for your personal life.

Sagittarius is political and is always in it for the bigger picture. This month, don’t be passive. Find your voice. Take a stand. Write it out. Go on Facebook and just rant! It is good to speak, as long as you’re not saying it to hurt someone and just complain. It is time to wake up and sometimes the only way to wake up is through crisis. There is so much going on politically that it’s getting uncomfortable, because the old systems of doing things are breaking. 

Questions to ask yourself: What can I do to lift the energy up? How can I be that voice of optimism this Sagittarius season? Can I tell the truth and keep my heart open?

We are here to tell the truth and to speak honestly but in kindness. This is the art of Sagittarius – how do you tell the truth without hurting someone, and if you do hurt someone, how quickly can you say “I’m sorry?”
