Apple's iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina go on sale in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines – Announced last October, Apple’s iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display are now available for users in the Philippines.

Both devices can be purchased from the Philippine Apple Online Store. Prices start at P20,490  and P25,490 for the 16GB Wi-Fi models of the Air and Retina iPad mini respectively and P26,990 and P31,990 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular models. Shipping time is an estimated 3-5 business days.

The devices will also be available at Apple Premium Resellers starting Thursday, December 19, 2013.

Globe Telecom is also offering the device on installment with data plans. The 16GB iPad Air starts at P1,624/month on Plan 499 and the Retina iPad mini at P1,499/month on Plan 499. Both come with 24-month contracts. Pre-orders here

Smart Telecom offers both devices with a minimal P1,000 cash out on the P1499 plan for the 16GB WiFi + Cellular model and the P1699 on the 32GB WiFi + Cellular model. Both come with 24-month contracts.

The iPad Air is an updated version of the original 9.7-inch iPad adapting the form factor of last year’s iPad mini, with a smaller bezel and diamond cut chamfered edges. At 1 pound, Apple is calling it the “lightest full sized tablet in the world.”

The device is powered by an A7 chip that Apple claims is 8x faster with 72 times better graphics.

Aside from its high-res screen the Retina iPad mini comes with the same A7 chip, 5-megapixel iSight camera and FaceTime HD camera as the iPad Air. – Rappler.com
