#PHVote Challenge: Laguna’s #TheLeaderIWant forum
In partnership with the Laguna State Polytechnic University, MovePH is set to hold Laguna's #TheLeaderIWant forum on Monday, February 1

MANILA, Philippines – Considered one of the vote-rich provinces in the country, Laguna is used to being wooed during elections.

As of the 2013 elections, Laguna had a total of 1,524,032 registered voters. Of this, 71.95% actually participated in the polls, according to data from the Commission on Elections.

But the province has invited not-so-positive attention in relation to politics in recent years.

In 2014, Laguna Governor ER Ejercito was disqualified by the Supreme Court due to overspending during the 2013 polls. For the 2016 elections, the Nacionalista Party, the ruling party in the province, will coalesce with the Liberal Party (LP) against the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

During the 2010 elections, then LP standard-bearer Benigno Aquino III won in the province with 442,620 votes. Former president Joseph Ejercito Estrada of UNA – then incumbent ER Ejercito’s uncle – came in second with 354,363 votes.

This coming elections, how will Laguna, a province rich in historical and natural resources, decide on who will lead the country in the next 6 years?

Take the #PHVote challenge!

In May 2015, Rappler launched #PHVote: The Leader I Want, the theme of our 2016 presidential elections coverage. To empower the Filipino youth in choosing the next leaders of the country, Rappler and its civic engagement arm, MovePH, held #PHVote forums in key cities in the Philippines in 2015: DavaoCebu, and Cagayan de Oro.

For our first stop in 2016, we are going to Laguna, in partnership with the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU), one of the biggest education networks in the province.

#PHVote Challenge: Laguna’s #TheLeaderIWant will be held on Monday, February 1, at 1-5 pm, at the LSPU-Siniloan Campus Gymnasium. Below is the program:
