If those behind the food truck want to continue the initiative, Moreno suggests calling it 'Kusina ng Maynila' or 'Kusina para sa Batang Maynila'

MANILA, Philippines – After supporters set up trucks to give away food after the city’s flag raising ceremony, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno asked those behind the project to remove his name on it following his “walang epal” initiative.

Moreno was responding to citizens who pointed out the service used Moreno’s name and face as it offered free food to city hall employees on Monday, July 15.

Nakisuyo na po ako sa nag-donate po ng food truck na huwag na lang ilagay ang mukha at pangalan ko,” Moreno tweeted on Tuesday, July 16. (I’m asking those who donated the food truck to please remove my face and name.)

This comes after Moreno earlier ordered all public schools in the capital city to take down the names pf politicians on school property.

Bawal and epal. Tigilan na natin ‘yan,” he said. (No grabbing credit. Let’s stop that.)

Photos online showed the food trucks bearing the name and face of Moreno and Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, along with the seal of Manila.

In a press conference on Monday, Moreno clarified the food trucks were not a government-funded project and were instead private projects presumably undertaken by supporters.

If those behind the food truck wanted to continue with the initiative, Moreno suggested it be called “Kusina ng Maynila” (Manila’s Kitchen) or “Kusina para sa Batang Maynila” (Kitchen for Manila children.)

Moreno likewise added the food truck would no longer be in the city’s next flag ceremony – Rappler.com
