MANILA, Philippines – The death toll from Tuesday’s (October 15) major earthquake in Central Visayas continued to rise, with the toll now placed at 185, the government said Sunday, October 20.

Bohol has reported 172 people dead; the toll in Cebu remains at 12, and Siquijor at one, based on the latest tally from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

People injured from the magnitude 7.2 quake now number 583, while 9 people are still missing.

Across Regions VI and VII, a total of 3,542,281 people have been affected by the quake, translating to 703,244 families. Evacuees number 370,495 people, all in Bohol, with 113,227 of them housed in 93 evacuation centers across the province.

The number of homes damaged from the quake now total 36,645; out of this, 8,480 were totally damaged, as validated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
