MANILA, Philippines – Pasig City Mayor-elect Vico Sotto wished outgoing mayor Robert Eusebio “inner peace to accept the truth,” as the defeated mayoral bet filed an electoral protest against him.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, June 1, Sotto shared a photo of the summons from the Commission on Election’s (Comelec) Electoral Contests Adjudication Department informing him of the protest.

“Sa akin, okay lang dahil lalong makikita ng lahat kung gaano ka-accurate ang resulta. (For me, it’s fine because everyone will see how accurate the results are),” Sotto said of the protest. (WATCH: #TheLeaderIWant: Pasig’s Vico Sotto on old, new politics)

“Wishing my opponent inner peace to accept the truth. I’m just here, ready to work with him for a smooth transition, if [and] when he’s ready,” he added.

According to the summons signed by Comelec director Allen Francis Abaya, Eusebio filed the protest on May 24.

Comelec required Sotto to submit a verified answer 5 days within receipt.

Sotto ended the 27-year reign of the Eusebios in the city when the City Board of Canvassers proclaimed him as winner with 209,370 votes, against Eusebio’s 121,556.

A first-term city councilor, Sotto championed the freedom of information ordinance which was passed in September 2018 – the first city in the Metro Manila to have such.

Sotto leveraged his campaign by promising better health care and housing programs for the city residents. – Rappler.com
