San Beda to face Adamson, La Salle to meet Lyceum in Filoil semis

MANILA, Philippines – Powerhouse teams San Beda and La Salle dispatched their quarterfinals foes to reach the Final Four of the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup at the Arena in San Juan on Monday, June 17.

The Red Lions remained undefeated after clamping down on FEU Tamaraws in a 60-52 win, while the Green Archers toppled the Letran Knights in an 80-69 triumph. 

Evan Nelle finished with 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists for San Beda, while James Kwekuteye chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. 

Kevin Ebona had 8 points, while Ken Tuffin and Wendell Comboy tallied 7 points each for FEU. 

Encho Serrano delivered 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Andrei Caracut put up 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists for La Salle, which never relinquished its hold of the upper hand after ending the first 3 quarters up 4. 

Allen Mina paced Letran with 19 points and 3 rebounds. 

The Adamson Soaring Falcons and the Lyceum Pirates also advanced to the semifinals with victories over the San Sebastian Stags and the CEU Scorpions, respectively. 

Lenda Douanga frolicked in the pain with 17 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 blocks as Adamson cruised to an 81-61 win, while Jerom Lastimosa and Simon Camacho added 14 and 11 points, respectively. 

Lyceum, meanwhile, had to dig deep against an inspired CEU squad to pull off a hard-fought 76-69 win. 

Maodo Diouf scattered a double-double of 17 points and 19 rebounds and powered a second-half surge for the Scorpions, but their comeback attempt fell short against the well-rested Pirates. 

Alvin Baetiong topscored for Lyceum with 13 points, while 7 other players scored at least 6 points.

Adamson will face San Beda in the semifinals, while La Salle will meet Lyceum in the other pairing.
