Indonesia’s Manganang a threat for PH volleyball team
The Philippines will face the Aprilia Manganang-led squad for the first time since 2015

JAKARTA, Indonesia – Even after a breakthrough win against Hong Kong in the 2018 Asian Games, the Philippine women’s volleyball team is far from satisfied as its looks to wrap up the preliminary round with a win over Indonesia.

However, a lethal force in the form of Aprilia Manganang is waiting for them in the Indonesia team in their 8 pm match (Manila time) on Saturday, August 25.

Kailangan siyempre mastop namin yung attacks niya, pero kung kaya namin magawan ng target na service pa lang ma-pareceive namin siya, pagtratrabahuhin talaga namin siya,” said head coach Shaq delos Santos.

(Of course we need to stop her attacks, but then if we can make her a target at the service line and we let her receive, we’ll be able to tire her out.)

Manganang powered Indonesia to a comeback win over Hong Kong after the host team dropped the first set last Tuesday. The high-flying spiker led the team with a whopping 28-point output off 25 spikes, 2 blocks and an ace.

The Philippine team last faced Indonesia in the 2015 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games  where the Manganang-led squad swept the Filipinas in straight sets.

So after three years, the Nationals will get to measure how much Philippine volleyball has improved.

That’s why a win over Indonesia remains important for the national spikers as both teams are also set to meet again in the 2019 SEA Games in Manila.

Magiging ready lang kami, magiging handa kami sa bawat tao na gagamitin nila dun,” said team captain Aby Marańo.

(We’re just going to be ready and we’ll be ready for all the players who will step on court.)  – Rappler.com
