Boyet Fernandez returns as San Beda coach

The two-time NCAA champion coach is going back to the Lions' den

MANILA, Philippines – Boyet Fernandez is bound for a reunion with the San Beda College Red Lions in the NCAA.

Team manager Jude Roque confirmed Fernandez’s appointment in a statement on Monday, December 19.

“After consulting with the school president, MVP confirmed last night the appointment of Boyet Fernandez as new Red Lions head coach,” he said. “I got the call from MVP late last night.”

Fernandez, 45, coached the Red Lions for two seasons from 2013 to 2014 and guided them to back-to-back titles before jumping to the PBA and coaching the NLEX Road Warriors.

He has since been replaced by coach Yeng Guiao in the league’s offseason this year.

Fernandez returns to fill the void left by coach Jamike Jarin, who after leading the Lions to the Season 92 title in October is set to jump to the UAAP and coach the National University Bulldogs.

Fernandez will also be handling the school’s PBA D-League team.

“It’s also a logical choice especially with the newly formed Cignal-San Beda D-League team, which Boyet will also handle,” added Roque. – Rappler.com
