Hubert Cani’s choice: Down to 3 schools

Will the former NU Bullpup and now former Blue Eagle end up with FEU, Adamson University, or Letran?

MANILA, Philippines – After being unable to meet Ateneo de Manila University’s passing grade required to play in the upcoming UAAP men’s basketball season, former UAAP juniors’ MVP Hubert Cani is choosing between 3 schools where he will study and play next.

According to a source close to Cani, the 5’10 point guard will land in either Far Eastern University, Adamson University, or Colegio de San Juan de Letran, with a final decision expected to be made sometime before or during this weekend.

The source said there was also some interest from the College of St Benilde and National University.

Cani, a former star for NU’s high school team, played sparingly in his first season with Ateneo in 2015 after serving a year of residency. In 11 games played, he averaged only 0.6 points and 0.6 assists a game.

Cani actually met the UAAP’s required passing grade to play, but not the higher mark required by Ateneo – a fate also suffered by 6 of his teammates. Before getting to play for his new school, Cani will have to do another year of residency as part of the UAAP/NCAA’s rules for transferring students.

A move to Adamson would put Cani in the system of new Falcons head coach Franz Pumaren, who’s popular for helping elevate the performances of guards in his roster.

When asked about Cani, Pumaren told Rappler last week there have been “no formal talks yet.”

Going to FEU or Letran could also help Cani land many minutes right away, considering the graduating talent both schools have had over the past year. – Rappler.com
